The number of deaths from cyclone Idai rose to 417 in Mozambique after more bodies were found.
Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique’s central waters last Friday, bringing together strong winds and flash floods, including neighboring Zimbabwe.
The Minister of Land and Environment, Celso Correia told journalists, up to now 417 deaths have been recorded.
That figure brings the total number of deaths in both countries to 676 people.
Almost 90,000 residents of Mozambique were forced to evacuate to the shelter while thousands were still stranded in flood areas.
The government estimates that over one million people are affected by the disaster.
“We are now facing an unexpected disaster and it’s like a catastrophe.
“Unfortunately, no one is able to predict this great disaster,” Correia said.
