Three people were killed and dozens wounded on Sunday in landslides caused by torrential rain in the northern region of Rumfi.

According to Radio Africa 1, the heavy rains in the area caused the devastation that destroyed the hills of Mfumfa and Lake Malawi in the early hours of the morning, Radio Africa1 reported on Sunday.

For his part, an official in the Provincial Council (RUMFI) said that the affected area can not be reached by land, and it is impossible to organize a rescue operation.

The provincial disaster management official said that the authorities in the country would send heavy drilling equipment across the lake as soon as the weather permits, after the huge rocks rolled off the mountain and caused serious damage. A number of police, soldiers and emergency personnel immediately went to the accident location.
