Tunis shaken by two suicide attacks, One police officer dead

Two suicide bombers attacked police in the Tunis capital of Tunisia, on Thursday killing one officer and wounding at least nine including policemen.

The Home Ministry said an attack on the central street of Tunis, one police officer killed and several civilians including two policemen.

Separately on Thursday, 92-year-old President Beji Caid Essebsi was taken to a military hospital after suffering a “severe health crisis”, the presidency said.

According to AFP, the body bumps on the road around a police car on Habib Bourguiba street near the old town.

“It was a serious attack that took place at 10:50 am (local time) at Habib Bourguiba. One casualty reported with nine were injured including policemen, “said ministry spokesman Sofiene Zaag.

He said the second attack targeted a military base in the capital and injured four security personnel.

Reuters witnesses saw people rushing away from the scene, while the body of one suicide bomber lay on the ground. Ambulance cars arrived. “I was shopping with my daughter and we heard a big explosion. We saw the body of the terrorist lying on the ground near a police vehicle after he blew himself up,” said a man who gave his name only as Mohamed.
