Back in June, Beji Caid Essebsi had to go to hospital for a week. How serious about the 92-year-olds, is not yet known.

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi has been repeatedly admitted to a military hospital. This was announced by his son on Wednesday evening.

The 92-year-old only had to go to hospital for a week in June – due to a “serious health issue”, as it was called then.

The presidential office was initially not available for comment. Essebsi played an important role in the country’s transition to democracy from 2011 onward. After the fall of the autocrat Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali, he led a transitional cabinet of technocrats.
