The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo a “public health emergency of international concern” and said the risks of its spread in Goma and Uganda had increased the threat.

The Director-General of the Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that he accepted the recommendations of an international committee of experts, stressing that restrictions should not be imposed on movement or trade or the imposition of checks on passengers entering ports or airports outside the area concerned.
