Chile: President Sebastian Pinera condemned the police abuses for the first time after four weeks of continuing demonstrations and clashes that rocked the country, which left 22 people dead and thousands injured. Pinera sent condolences to the families of the victims.

The Chilean president also celebrated the historic agreement last Friday to hold a referendum in April 2020 to change the constitution, which is one of the ways out of the political crisis plaguing Chile, according to the Argentine newspaper.

“There has been an excessive use of force, violations and crimes that have not been respected and everyone’s rights are not respected, to help the injured victims.” he said.

“If citizens decide to do so, we will move to a new constitution, the first in democracy”, the president said in his message from the presidential palace.
