Legendary actor Robert De Niro described the life for Americans during Donald Trump’s presidency as “living in a family that abuses its members”, welcoming billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.

De Niro said in televised remarks quoted by the newspaper “The Hill” American parts of it, on Tuesday: “It is really a dangerous situation in which we are”, describing the US president as a “fake president” and “fool”.

“It’s like living in a family that abuses its members, you feel you don’t know what will happen next, what crazy thing will happen next, what will make you say, what the hell will happen?”

Asked about the billionaire and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg’s intention to run for the Democratic presidential nomination, the 76-year-old Hollywood star admired the man, saying he was “trying to do the right thing”. He expected Bloomberg to be his favorite candidate for the presidency.

Hollywood star praised the other Democratic candidate and mayor of South Bend in Indiana, Pete Buttigieg, saying: “I love him, but it is a question that he is still small, he has time, but we have to overcome this terrible situation”, De Niro said.

Robert Anthony De Niro Jr. is an American-Italian actor, producer, and director. He is a recipient of numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
