Earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude hits northern Argentina

The US Geological Survey said that a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck northern Argentina on Thursday near the town of El Hoyo.

The authority said that the earthquake, which occurred 16 km west of the town, was at a very large depth of about 5,604 km below the surface, and was not likely to cause any damage.
