Heavy rains threaten rivers flooding in central United States

A wave of storms with heavy rain moving through the central United States on Thursday threatens floods in  several areas where rivers have already been filled by previous rains, the US National Weather Service said..

The storms, which may be accompanied by strong winds and possibly snow, may cause flooding of many rivers, the water level has already risen above the average already, in parts including parts of the states of Ohio and Mississippi.

“It will not take a lot of extra rain for a flood,” said an expert at the agency in Maryland.

Flood warnings were issued in North Texas, East Oklahoma, North Arkansas and the Ohio River Valley, which includes parts of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, weather expert said.
