The United States Senate today approved the appointment of Kelly Craft as US ambassador to the United Nations in place of Nikki Haley despite Democratic opposition.

Craft, 57, previously served as a US ambassador to Canada and was involved in negotiations over the review of North American free trade agreements.

Democrats fear the status of Craft marrying renowned coal tycoon Joe Craft will influence the country’s policy of wanting the US economy toward new sources of energy such as renewable energy.

Last month, Craft promised lawmakers that he would avoid discussing climate change issues involving coal in the world.

However, he strongly supported President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from the UN-backed Paris climate agreement.

After Haley resigned late last year, Trump appointed former Fox News anchor Heather Nauert to take over the job, but was never formally nominated to fill the vacancy.
