More forest fires broke out near Los Angeles Thursday, destroying more homes and forcing more residents to evacuate.

The Hillside Fire spread to an area of 80 hectares and began destroying homes near a hillside in San Bernardino, east of Los Angeles, according to the San Bernardino Fire Department.

At least six homes were damaged or destroyed and about 1,300 residents were evacuated.

A helicopter and a small aircraft also sprayed water and fire extinguishers, according to fire department spokesman Chris Prater. A small forest fire was also reported in Jurupa Valley.

“Most likely the wind is the biggest factor that worsens the fire,” he said.
