Bolivia’s former president, Evo Morales on Wednesday denounced the United States’ recognition of his country’s self-proclaimed “de facto” government since he left the country.

The vice president became interim president after Morales fled to Mexico for asylum on Tuesday. Morales said his resignation was due to a coup, calling him on Twitter a “political and economic conspiracy” from the United States.

“The United States looks forward to working with the Transitional Administration in Bolivia”, Michael Cusack, assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs, said on Twitter.
