The US President Donald Trump has furiously defended controversial Supreme Court judge Brett Kavanaugh against a new allegation of sexual misconduct. Trump wrote on Sunday in the online service Twitter, “radical left-wing Democrats and the media were back to Kavanaugh and talked loud about their favorite word of impeachment”. Several Democrats, on the other hand, demanded an investigation into the new allegation.

A former fellow student at the American elite university Yale indicates that Kavanaugh had bared a first-year party, then other students had pressed his genitals into the hands of a student. The allegation was published by the “New York Times” over the weekend. According to the newspaper, the former fellow student had already made the accusation during the nomination of Kavanaugh. However, this was not followed up.

Kavanaugh had received serious allegations of sexual abuse of women during his nomination. The already controversial because of its arch-conservative views, he was therefore appointed after a long and bitter debate between Democrats and Republicans in October 2018 to the Supreme Judge.

“He is an innocent man who has been treated terribly”, tweeted Trump after the new charge on Sunday. “Such lies about him, they want to scare him into becoming liberal”, he said. Trump advised Kavanaugh to take legal action against the allegation, suggesting that the Justice Department should come to his aid.

Several Democrats, however, demanded an investigation of the new charge. Among them is  Julian Castro, former Minister of Housing and candidate for the presidential elections.
