The Pentagon said in a statement that a US soldier was killed in the fighting in Afghanistan on Monday, and the army did not provide further details and withheld the name of the dead soldier until informing his relatives. More than 12 foreign soldiers were killed in Afghanistan during 2019.

About 20,000 foreign soldiers, most of them Americans, are deployed in Afghanistan as part of a US-led NATO mission to train, assist and advise Afghan forces, and some American forces are conducting anti-terrorist operations against militant groups.
