In response to North Korea’s remarks, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the US government hopes that the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will take a different path.

Pompeo added: “I hope (Kim Jong-un) will choose peace and prosperity, not conflict and war”.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has promised to continue strengthening nuclear deterrence, stressing that his country will unveil a “new strategic weapon” in the near future.

According to the North Korean News Agency, Kim stressed that the extent of nuclear deterrence for his country will depend on the position of America, accusing Washington that its demands are similar to the actions of gangs. But at the same time, he left the door open to dialogue.

Kim’s remarks came after a year-end deadline, he had granted to the United States to resume nuclear talks.
