The Texas Republican Mac Thornberry said on Monday he will quit the House of Representatives by the end of the current US Congressional term and will not seek re-election in 2020 as the sixth Texas Republican to announce the same trend.

Thornberry said in a speech to Congress that he had a great honor to serve the American people in Texas as a deputy for 25 years, but we have to remember that everything has a season and I think it’s time for a change, so I decided this was my last parliamentary term in the Congress.

Thornberry, who has served in Congress since 1994, was the most prominent member of the House Committee on Military Commissions. He joins more than a dozen other Republicans in the House of Representatives who have preferred to step down over the past several months, mostly because of the end of their term in office.
