Trump announces expulsion of millions of migrants

US President Donald Trump has announced a mass expulsion of illegal immigrants. Next week, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Commission (ICE) will begin the expulsion of millions of foreigners who have found their way to the United States illegally, Trump tweeted. “They are expelled as soon as they came in.”

In addition, Guatemala is preparing to sign an agreement that makes it a safe third country. The United States recently proposed that Guatemala, as a safe third country, could accept asylum seekers from neighboring countries.

However, the human rights group ‘Human Rights First’ said it was “simply ridiculous” that the United States claimed Guatemala was able to protect refugees if its own citizens were fleeing violence and poverty.

Mexico had recently agreed to economic pressure from the United States to take vigorous action to curb migration to America. Trump had previously threatened Mexico with punitive tariffs.

An estimated 12 million immigrants currently reside illegally in the United States, mostly from Mexico and Central America. The fight against illegal immigration was one of Trump’s main themes during the election campaign.
