US President Donald Trump on Friday denied a report that he had proposed confronting hurricanes that could hit the United States with nuclear bombs, calling them “fake news.”

Trump, in a tweet on the social networking site Twitter that, “The story by Axios that President Trump wanted to blow up large hurricanes with nuclear weapons prior to reaching shore is ridiculous” adding: ” I never said this. Just more FAKE NEWS!”

For his part, the White House declined to comment on the report, but a senior official in the US administration said that “President Trump did not mean anything bad.”

Axios reporter Jonathan Swan responded to Trump’s denial by tweeting that he stands by “every word in the story.”
