US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expected US President Donald Trump to discuss human rights issues in  Hong Kong when he meets with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the G-20 leaders’ summit in Osaka, Japan, on June 28-29..

This comes after some 2 million people staged protests across Hong Kong on Sunday after Hong Kong’s chief executive, Carrie Lam, suspended and not withdrawn a controversial bill to extradite those wanted to China for trial, which the demonstrators consider to be a violation of their civil liberties and judicial system..

On the US president’s comments that his country will not spy on North Korea, Pompeo said in remarks Sunday that the United States is taking all measures it needs to ensure understanding of the risks and threats posed by North Korea.
