US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that no one is authorized to talk to Iran on behalf of his country, accusing French President Emmanuel Macron of sending “conflicting signals” to Tehran over possible talks.

Trump said in a series of tweets: “I know that Emmanuel means good like others, but no one speaks for the United States but the United States itself”.

It was not immediately clear what Trump was referring to, but a report this week said Macron had invited Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to the G7 summit this month to meet Trump. A French diplomat denied the report on Wednesday.
