US President Donald Trump on Friday vowed to scrap the status of the United States as a signatory to the Arms Trade Treaty (IATT), which regulates international trade in conventional arms, and said he would ask the US Senate not to ratify the treaty signed by his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama, Reuters reported

“We are about to withdraw our signature,” Trump said in remarks to the National Rifle Association. “I will sign … a letter asking the Senate to stop the process of ratifying the treaty.”

Obama signed the treaty in 2013, but US lawmakers have not yet approved it.
