US lawmakers are working on an agreement on financing the construction of the border wall with Mexico, amid signs the White House is preparing to accept a compromise that will give US President Donald Trump part of the amount he is demanding.
A US-based television reported Saturday that lawmakers from both parties were expected to produce far less than the $ 5.7 billion set by Trump to start the construction of the wall.
They stressed that the amount that could be agreed upon may not exceed $ 1.6 billion, the same amount as stipulated in a draft resolution in the Senate last year.
If an agreement is reached on financing the construction of the wall, which is of great interest to Trump and its mass base, the US government will avoid a new partial closure looming over the weekend.
