The gunman, who killed 12 people and wounded four others in a local administration building, on Friday. Police said he was named Dwyane Craddock, a disgruntled engineer working in the city administration.
A municipal building in Virginia Beach, was turned into a scene of carnage on Friday afternoon after a longtime public utilities employee began firing indiscriminately at his co-workers with a handgun, the authorities said, killing a dozen people and injuring several others before dying after an extended shootout with the police.
Craddock was killed in an exchange of fire with police after opening fire in the building. Officials said all the victims were employees of the local administration in Virginia Beach except for one who was a contractor requesting permission.
Virginia Beach police chief James Cervera told a press conference on Saturday that he would only name the gunman once because the city authorities wanted to focus on the victims. He added that Craddock had been running the city’s public utilities for nearly 15 years.
