The United States has submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for new free and fair presidential elections in Venezuela.

The draft, which is expected to be voted on by the Security Council tomorrow, also includes expressing deep concern over the attempts by President Nicolas Maduro’s government to block access of humanitarian aid to those affected in Venezuela.

The draft resolution, expected to be rejected by Russia, stipulates that the presidential elections held in Venezuela on May 20 last year have resulted in Maduro winning a new term “free and fair “.

The draft resolution further calls for the peaceful restoration of democracy in Venezuela and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.
