Australian Firefighters are actively extinguishing bush fires in more than 100 areas around the two eastern states today.

Authorities have also warned that some parts of the country are expected to experience the worst bush fires this summer.

The fire has never been worse this early in the spring, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) officer Inspector Andrew Sturgess said.

Most uncontrollable fires in Queensland and New South Wales destroyed at least 20 properties.

Authorities expect the number to increase as soon as the affected area is safe to enter and inspect.

No deaths have been reported so far but a 66-year-old volunteer firefighter is in critical condition at the hospital after being injured in a burn last Friday.
