At least 38 people including children were reported dead while another 17 were injured after a bomb exploded when a passenger bus traveling on a highway was located between two major cities in western Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Provincial police spokesman Mohibullah Mohib said the explosion occurred on a highway near the Ab Khorma area of Farah province connecting the capital cities of Herat and Kandahar.
“The bomb that explodes passenger bus has just been planted by Taliban insurgents targeting Afghan security forces and foreign forces,” he said.
So far, Taliban officials have made no comment or claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, the government and medical officials said the number of dead and wounded had increased as new bombs were planted by the Taliban, which now occupy many territories since their evacuation almost 18 years ago.
