5.7 magnitude earthquake hits Russian administered Shikotan island

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted an area 39 kilometers off the coast of the Russian-administered Shikotan island, the official SPA news agency reported.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake occurred at a depth of 6.3 kilometers below sea level in the northeast of Shikotan Island.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage.
