A court in Australia Wednesday upheld the jail sentence of High Priest and former Vatican treasurer George Pell for criminal sexual abuse of children.

Accordingly, the court rejected Pell’s legal team’s appeal against the decision.

The decision made Pell the world’s largest Catholic church leader ever convicted of child sex crimes.

He was sentenced to six years in prison last March after being found guilty of five counts of sexual misconduct, involving two 13-year-old boys at St Patrick’s Church, when he became the Archbishop of Melbourne in the late 1990s.

George Pell will be eligible for parole in October 2022, at the age of 81.
