Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his country’s concern over the current tension in South Asia, calling on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and avoid escalating the situation.

This came during Wang meet Wednesday with Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of the 16th trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of China, Russia and India in Wuchen, east China’s Zhejiang Province.

Wang said China expects the two countries to realize the reality of the incident, which caused their tension, through dialogue while maintaining regional peace jointly.

On bilateral relations, Wang stressed the importance of promoting and developing relations between the two sides. For her part, the Indian foreign minister said her country and China should work together to safeguard peace and tranquility in their border areas and push forward bilateral ties.
