China's UN envoy: Arab League is an important partner in the counter-terrorism strategy

China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ma Zhaoxu stressed that the Arab League is an important partner in implementing the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

In a speech to a UN Security Council meeting on cooperation between the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations, quoted by Chinese media on Friday, “in the framework of promoting better cooperation with the League of Arab States, we must move forward in combating terrorism and preventing extremism.

Zhaoxu added that the United Nations and the League of Arab States can implement cooperation in the fight against terrorism through joint projects and promote information exchange, capacity-building and coordinated actions to meet the challenges in the fight against terrorism in the Middle East region..

The Chinese delegate hailed the Arab League as “an important bridge” for exchanges and cooperation between the United Nations and the Arab world, adding that recent years have witnessed close cooperation between the UN and the League in easing regional tensions and solving hot issues..

He pointed out that with many problems in the Middle East, all parties must deal with each other on an equal footing, consult widely, seek common ground and build a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security architecture..

“The League of Arab States can play a bigger role in solving the problems related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Libya and Sudan. The UN should help the League to strengthen its capacity to prevent conflicts, mediation, peacekeeping and peace-building.
