The unscheduled presence of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to welcome Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister arrives from Kuala Lumpur, was shocked last night, especially the media. Many of the leading media outlets missed the lead story of both the leaders meet for 20 minutes.

The official schedule was the Turkish president Erdogan to hold a four-point meeting with Dr Mahathir after the reception at the Presidential Palace this evening.

Special plane carrying Dr Mahathir and his wife from Kuala Lumpur, arrived at Esenboga International Airport here at about 7.40pm local time last night to start a four-day official visit.

About 15 minutes later, a special plane carrying Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, arrived at the same airport, and both leaders later held a brief 20 minute meeting in the famous room.

However, a senior member of Dr Mahathir’s visiting team, when met, said the meeting was designed at the last minute.

“The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan himself wanted to welcome Dr Mahathir Mohamed on his arrival but the President said it would be a little late,” senior official said.

The two leaders recognized the world as a vowel and were not easily subject to the Western world.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir and his wife were welcomed by Turkey’s Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank and Governor of Ankara, Vasip Sahin.

Malaysian PM Dr Mahathir was scheduled to meet President Erdogan at the Presidential Palace at later at night.

This was followed by a meeting of the delegation of both countries to be accompanied by Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu and Minister of International Trade and Industry Darrel Leiking.

Turkish President and Malaysian Prime Minister were then expected to hold a joint press conference, before attending a dinner.
