Former Chinese official sentenced 14 years in corruption case

The Intermediate People’s Court of Ningbo City, east China’s Zhejiang Province, sentenced former deputy chief of publicity department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Lu Wei to 14 years in prison and a 3 million yuan ($ 450,000) fine after his conviction on charges of obtaining bribes.

The court said in a statement Tuesday that the ruling includes the confiscation of funds and property obtained by “Wei” in the form of bribes and any benefit resulting from them, and return them to the treasury of the state.

The court added that Wei used his functions to help specific organizations and individuals manage Internet and corporate management, get upgrades and transfer jobs between 2002 and 2017 and that he directly or through others received funds and property worth 32 million yuan (4.8 million dollars) Organizations and individuals mentioned above.

The court noted that Wei had announced his acceptance of the verdict and would not appeal against it.
