The Coast Guard said the search and rescue operation resulted in the rescue of 11 other migrants who were aboard the boat. A Reuters video showed surviving migrants, including at least one child, later being transported on ambulances.

Turkish media quoted security sources as saying the boat was transporting migrants from Iran and Afghanistan.
