Iran will not hold a two-point talk with the United States, but will be prepared to attend multilateral talks, if Washington rejoins the 2015 nuclear deal.

Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday, as broadcast by a local television station.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he would meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, likely at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York later this month.

Iranian officials, at any rate, will not consult with US officials, it is one of their (US) policies to put pressure on Iran. Their policy of giving maximum pressure (to Iran) will fail.

“If the United States reverses their action and returns to the nuclear deal (with Iranian leadership in 2015), they can join the bilateral talks between Iran and several other parties to the agreement”, Khamenei said as reported by the television station.

Trump has lifted sanctions against Tehran since the end of last year, when the country withdrew from a nuclear deal between Iran and six other world powers.

“If we succumb to pressure and negotiate with the United States, it will show the maximum pressure placed on Tehran to achieve its goal”, said Khamenei, who has been vocal in all matters involving the country.
