Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Sunday will begin consultations on forming new government with parliamentary blocs winning Tuesday’s Knesset elections as a prelude to determining who will take the charge, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

The consultations will last for two days, with consultations being held with the most vocal Benny Gantz’s Blue-White Party, which won 33 seats and Benjamin Netanyahu secured 31 seats.

The past few hours have seen political quirks by Netanyahu, who offered Gantz to form new government with Gantz, but he rejected it, calling the offer a “media trick” and renewing his pledge not to enter a single government with Netanyahu.

Gantz said he was seeking to form a liberal unity government under his presidency, an explicit reference to his refusal to partner with the right-wing bloc that includes ultra-Orthodox religious parties in Netanyahu’s camp.

The results of the semi-final elections in Israel shows in a difficult situation for both Netanyahu and Gantz, because the right-wing bloc represented by the first, the left-center bloc and the Arab parties on the other hand, managed to obtain at least 61 seats in the Knesset to form the government.
