Kyrgyzstan’s security service on Tuesday arrested a citizen who had received military training in Syria, according to the State Security Commission.

In the course of the investigation, in cooperation with foreign partners, a Kyrgyz national was arrested for his involvement in the activities of international terrorist organizations.

According to the security services, the detainee was trained to carry out acts of vandalism and terrorism in the areas of armed conflict in Syria and Iraq.

He had to go to one of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States and was awaiting instructions from the leaders of the terrorist organizations to carry out the terrorist aspirations.

An investigation has been opened into the criminal case, where he is expected to face up to 20 years’ imprisonment under criminal law in the country, SSC stated.

It is noteworthy that the militants of the organization Daesh banned in Russia, which was defeated in Syria and Iraq – are moving gradually to the north of Afghanistan, and there is a direct threat to the security of the Central Asian countries, including Kyrgyzstan, where the organisation would establish a point of support in the region for its activities.
