Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said special incentives are being planned to attract infrastructure investment and technology-based tourism for the sector.

The Prime Minister said that under the National Tourism Policy 2020-2030, Malaysia would also set up a Special Tourism Investment Zone throughout the country.

Speaking at the opening of the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2019 at the WTC Media Center, Monday. Malaysian Prime Minister said the country is now taking a step towards digital technology-based tourism development.

Mahathir said through digital development, Malaysia was able to drive the country’s tourism industry internationally, while also facilitating the service chain.

He said Malaysia was aware that technology development in tourism would be possible if it were to cross the border and open up opportunities for global growth.
