It is noteworthy that the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, had said, on Thursday, that the European Union losses from sanctions against Russia are estimated at hundreds of billions of euros, Zakharova added – in statements broadcast by the Russian news agency (Sputnik) – “its result” (Sanctions) were not only a deterioration in the general atmosphere of the relations between the Russian Federation and the European Union, which amounted to about 30 years, but also complicated the activities of European economic operators in the Russian market. The European Union losses from the sanctions crisis are already estimated at hundreds of billions of euros.

“They will probably be able to think about making the line in the Russian direction, in line with the long-term interests of their countries and the people. This seems to fulfill the mission set by the new European Union leadership, to implement a more strategic path in international affairs”, she added.

The relations between Russia and Western countries, including the European Union countries, deteriorated against the background of the Ukrainian crisis, the accession of Crimea to Russia in March 2014, and the imposition of sanctions on Russia. For its part, Moscow is seeking to counter this Western approach through attempts to restore relations to normal.

While Moscow called on Ankara to activate the implementation of the Idlib Memorandum on the establishment of a demilitarized zone and separate the opposition from the terrorists, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said, “It is clear that the terrorist enclave in Idlib cannot be condoned indefinitely”. In this regard, Russia calls for the implementation of measures to fully implement the Sochi Memorandum on the situation in Idlib on September 17, 2018.
