North Korea has notified Thailand that Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho will not attend the foreign ministers’ meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional forum scheduled for Aug. 2 in Bangkok, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported.

The agency quoted a diplomatic source, who did not reveal his identity, as saying that North Korea’s foreign minister also canceled his plan to visit two neighboring countries on the sidelines of the forum.

The agency said it raised expectations that a high-level meeting between North Korea and the United States would not be held during the ASEAN forum. Minister Ray was expected to meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of the forum.

Earlier this month, Pyongyang sent positive signals about the forum’s presence in Thailand, but notified Thailand not to attend without further details.
