Pakistan’s armed forces on Thursday successfully tested a “Gaznavi” surface-to-surface ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple types of warheads, the armed forces media wing said.

“Pakistan has successfully tested a surface-to-surface “Gaznavi” ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple types of warheads, with a range of 290 kilometers,” Pakistani military spokesman, Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations, Major General Asif Ghafour said.

Pakistan’s President Arif Alavi and Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed their appreciation to the military team that contributed to the success of the test and congratulated the Pakistani people on the occasion, the military spokesman said.

Islamabad’s overnight drills came at a time of heightened tensions with New Delhi following the abolition of self-rule for the disputed Kashmir region in an illegal, unilateral move.
