Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a government decision to ratify the Paris Climate Agreement.
Medvedev said in a statement quoted by the Russian news agency (Sputnik) on Monday that he had signed a government decision to adopt the climate agreement.
The Paris Agreement is a convention concluded by 196 countries on April 22, 2016, under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); it highlights issues related to greenhouse gas emissions.
The agreement aims to limit the average global temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius above the preindustrial level. Agreement also provides for more financial resources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop resilience to climate change.
United States announced its intention to withdraw from the agreement after November 2020.
