Russian police detained 72 people on Saturday on protests organized by the opposition in several cities.

Tens of thousands of Moscow residents staged Russia’s biggest political protest in years on Saturday to demand free municipal elections despite government repression.

The observatory said 55 people were detained in St. Petersburg, 10 in Moscow and seven in the city of Rostov-on-Don during the protests.
