A light training plane crashed in Iwanki district of Semnan province, east of Tehran, a spokesman for the Iranian civil aviation organization Reza Jafarzadeh said.
Jaafarzadeh said in a statement on Thursday, quoted by the official IRNA news agency, that at around 9:00 am local time (0430 GMT), a light training plane crashed in the Iwanki district of Semnan province (northeastern Iran). Pilot-trainer and an intern were killed in a crash.
He added that a team was immediately directed by the Civil Aviation Organization to the scene to identify the circumstances.
Iran’s aviation sector, under the embargo and sanctions imposed as a result of the nuclear program, suffers from a severe shortage of spare parts and even its ability to purchase new aircraft. During this year and previous years, many Iranian passenger planes have suffered crashes.
