Tsunami alert released after Four people were killed and several others were injured in a powerful subterranean earthquake shook people on Java island, a national disaster agency said Saturday.
The 6.9-magnitude earthquake on Friday, forced residents to flee to higher ground and run out onto the streets of Jakarta.
National disaster agency officials warned that an earthquake could cause tsunami waves up to three meters, but the warning was lifted several hours later.
Spokesman Agus Wibowo said three people died of a heart attack during a devastating earthquake.
He said another person died after trying to flee from his home during the quake.
He added that four others were injured and over 200 buildings were damaged and about 13 homes suffered similar injuries.
Wibowo said at least 1,000 people were evacuated to temporary shelters and then returned to the home on the advice of the authorities.
