US special envoy to the peace process in Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, announced that he made excellent progress during his recent talks with the Taliban over the past few days.
Khalilzad said on Tuesday that his talks with the Taliban focused on the remaining issues in completing the possible deal with the movement. He said he would travel to India to hold a meeting with the Taliban. Meetings aimed at mobilizing international consensus to support the peace process in Afghanistan.
This comes after the announcement by Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Sibghatullah Ahmadi, the government’s willingness to hold direct talks with the Taliban movement, expressing his hope to establish peace and security in the country immediately after the completion of peace negotiations between the various Afghan parties.
