The body of a French traveler missing nine days ago in southern Naples was found yesterday, local authorities said.

“The body of Simon Gautier has been found some time ago,” authorities said in Sapri, near Belvedere in Ciolandre, where the 27-year-old was found.

Gautier called for help on August 9, saying he fell into a ravine and broke his leg but failed to provide the exact location of the incident, saying it was located near the beach.

The family of the victim had earlier complained that the rescuers had taken too long to track down the youth.

According to Italian media, the remains of the deceased were found at the bottom of the ravine after rescuers using binoculars tracked back the victim’s backpack.

Yesterday, a group of mountain rescuers and firefighters along with helicopters and drones searched around the mountains and steep coastline.

Gautier lived in Rome for two years to complete a thesis on art history.

He traveled alone from Policastro Bussentino to Naples and sent a picture of his backpack to the family.
