“Canada is a trading nation that relies on freedom of navigation and the uninterrupted traffic of maritime trade,” said a statement from the Canadian Foreign Ministry, “These attacks on civilian shipping are a concern for Canada and many of our international partners.”
“Canada remains deeply concerned about further escalation in an already tense region,” said the statement, adding that the deterioration of the situation would conflict with regional security, global trade, the rule-based international order and the interests of Canada and the world.
The Canadian government confirmed that it was in contact with partners and was closely monitoring the situation.
