Toronto police chief Mark Saunders announced on Friday several arrests linked to shootings after a week of violence in the city.
At a press conference on Friday morning, Mark Saunders said investigators had made progress in three separate incidents, leading to the arrest of five people and the confiscation of three firearms.
Saunders said “the series of shootings are related to and linked to street gangs,” but stressed the importance of maintaining the safety of pedestrians. “Sometimes this does not mean that innocent people are not affected.
“We are optimistic about some of the ongoing investigations,” he said.
Over the past week, police have responded to numerous shootings, including a long weekend, in which 17 people were shot in 14 separate shooting incidents. There have also been three shootings in one district of Scarborough suburb since Tuesday.
