Leading Conservative MP Nigel Evans on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Teresa May to announce her resignation on Thursday as parliament resumes after the Easter holiday.

“I would be happy if May announce her resignation today so that we can hold elections and choose a new leader for the Conservative Party,” Evans said, according to London-based newspaper.

“The only way to properly break the current deadlock is for the Conservative Party to have a new leadership,” Evans said.

Evans said the call for May’s resignation had gained momentum at present, with 70 percent of conservatives says they did not trust the prime minister and 40 percent of conservative advisers favoring the party of Nigel Evans.
