The European Union sees new opportunities for agreement and launches another intensive round of negotiations with Great Britain. The diplomat sources confirmed on Friday, the German Press Agency reported in Brussels.

New round of negotiations further brings the hope of a regulated exit of UK will succeed. A solution is needed until the EU summit at the end of next week. The Brexit is announced for October 31st.

EU Council President Donald Tusk said there was still a lack of actionable and realistic proposals from Britain. “But there are promising signals from Ireland, even the smallest chance must be used”, Tusk wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, EU negotiator Michel Barnier had a constructive conversation with Britain’s Brexit Minister Stephen Barclay on Friday morning. The 27 remaining EU states subsequently gave the green light for new negotiations, the German media reported.

On Thursday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Irish counterpart Leo Varadkar surprisingly came closer to a solution. “A Deal by the withdrawal date October 31, is still possible”, the Irish PM Varadkar said after a two-hour call with Johnson near Liverpool. At the same time he pointed out that something else could go wrong.

According to the EU critics, the Irish assessment is important for the entire EU. The crucial point is the question of how the border between the British Northern Ireland and the EU neighbor Ireland can be kept open.

The conversation between Johnson and Varadkar was officially not known, but the information leaked on a new possible formula for the Irish border was discussed by the two leaders.

European Union wants to avoid a fixed border with checkpoints on the Irish island due to the fears of new turmoil in the former civil war zone. The EU also wants to prevent uncontrolled and unpaid imports from entering the internal market via the new EU external border.

Johnson had already offered that the Northern Ireland would stick to EU product standards even after Brexit, which would make unnecessary physical checks on the Irish border.
